When it comes to dating, there is a common rule of thumb which states that it’s perfectly okay to go out with someone who is half your age, plus seven years. However, these days that dating equation doesn’t apply anymore.


While dating younger men may be a common trend overseas, it is still criticised by some over here in Nigeria. But here are four Nigerian female celebrities who took on the adventure and found love with younger men regardless.

1.  Lola Omotayo and Peter Okoye

Before they got married, Lola Omotayo and P-Square’s relationship was highly criticised by fans because of the age gap between the couple. Lola, who is in her 40s is said to be at least six years older than Peter or even more. However, after eight years of dating, they finally put haters to shame and got married in 2013. They have two children together, Cameron and Aliona.

2. Osas Ighodaro and Gbenro Ajibade

Former beauty queen turned actress Osas Ighodaro met model Gbenro Ajibade on the set of Mnet series, Tinsel about 4 and a half years ago. The two hit it off and began dating under the radar. After three years of dating, Gbenro finally put a ring on it in 2014. Osas is 32-years-old while Gbenro is 29. The couple got married last year in New York and recently welcomed a daughter.

3. Kaffy and Joseph Ameh

This may come as a surprise but do you know celebrity dancer, Kaffy is actually eight years older than her husband, Joseph Ameh? The age gap between the couple isn’t obvious thanks to Kaffy’s amazing looks and workout regime. Kaffy and Joseph aka ‘Pappy J’ got married in 2012 and they have two children, a boy and a girl.

4.Toyin Lawani and Trigga Kess

Celebrity stylist and fashion designer, Toyin Lawani raised a lot brows when she got engaged to upcoming rapper Trigga Kess in 2013. Toyin was 31 years old then while Trigga was 21. During an interview with The NET, Trigga revealed they had actually dated for four years prior to their engagement, leading people to conclude that he was only 17 when they first started dating.

Despite the criticism and scrutiny, Toyin didn’t hold back in flaunting her relationship on social media. The couple’s relationship has, however,  been rocky of late. They have a two-year-old son together.
