IHEANACHO A DOUBT FOR TANZANIA CLASH AS MIKEL TAKES ON MUSA IN THE LEAGUE CUP

Kelechi Iheanacho has become a major doubt for Nigeria in next month’s 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualification clash against Tanzania.

Iheanacho, along with 22 other players, were invited by new Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr in what will be his debut game in charge of the team, but the starlet now seems unlikely to play any part in the clash in Uyo as he picked an injury in Manchester City’s Uefa Champions League game against Romanian club, Steaua Bucharest at the Etihad Stadium Wednesday night.

In his first start under new coach Pep Guardiola, the 19-year-old pulled up while chasing a pass and was immediately replaced by Brazilian midfielder, as a much-changed City went on to win the game 1-0.

The club is yet to make an official statement on the seriousness of the injury.

Meanwhile, the third round of the English Football League will witness a clash between two key Super Eagles players as League champions Leicester City were drawn against Chelsea.

Antonio Conte’s men had to dig deep in order to book the clash, edging League One side Bristol Rovers 3-2 at Stamford Bridge, while Leicester earned a bye to the third round due to their involvement in the Champions League.

This will see Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi, fresh from his Olympics exploits, go up against his predecessor Ahmed Musa who joined the Foxes in the summer.

Elsewhere, League Cup holders Manchester City face an all-Premier League clash away to Swansea City, while Arsenal visit Nottingham Forest.

Manchester United will travel to League One outfit Northampton Town, while Derby County will host Liverpool.
