For ancient Egypt we could explain the plagues. She had obstinately held Israel captive but what was the crime for the back-to-back ‘plagues’ for modern day Brazil? The audacity to host the Olympics despite not being a first world nation?
Brazil personified the term ‘National Embarrassment’; got major global media coverage daily outlining the many reasons why she was the worst choice to host an event of such magnitude.
These reasons include:
1) Political unrest; off the unrest from the president’s impeachment.
2) There was the Zika virus dilemma. So disturbing, individual athletes were pulling out and some countries began to reconsider the option of participating.
3) Increased crime rate was another factor that was well publicised. So out of control, the police’s competence got questioned by the world.
4) International media claimed the viewer ratings had dropped by over 20% from the London Olympics
5) Popular journals were pulling down their Olympic columns.
It really was tough for Brazil ahead of the Games as these were solid reasons for concern. But did the South American nation back down?
Well, THIS IS BRAZIL, she did not cave into the pressure.
She took on every hurdle, one at a time.
Brazil did not focus her energy on making responses, begging the world to come to Rio or even trying so much to changing the perception.
Rather, Brazil focused on making what was deemed impossible, possible.
Brazil followed through with every plan to have a successful event and join the list of historic hosts of the Olympics.
Brazil did it.
Brazil is a brave nation.
Be like Brazil. Let nothing stop you. Focus on proving them wrong when they say you can’t. When odds are stacked against you, be calm. You can take on it all.
