JAY Z WINS N2B LAWSUIT OVER ROC-A-FELLA LOGO

Jay Z has been let off from a $7m (N2b) lawsuit filed against him and former partner, Damon Dash over a copyright infringement of Roc-A-Fella logo by a New York designer, Dwayne Walker.

In the suit filed in 2012, Walker claimed that he designed the artwork for the logo in 1995. Jay Z and his associates however denied Walker’s claim, saying that the logo was designed by an in-house art director.

A Manhattan disctrict judge, Andrew Carter dismissed the suit, citing inadequate evidence and also that Walker waited too long to sue – taking five years, instead of three.

Judge Carter ruled that the ‘plaintiff’s own self-serving testimony that he drafted the contract, that he and Dash signed it, and that he lost track of it in 1998,’ is not enough.

According to Walker’s attorney, he intends to appeal the ruling.
